Immense effort was undertaken to bring new life to this 1911 grocery store, in order to serve as Pacific Steel & Recycling’s new corporate headquarters. Prominent new glass and metal entries were juxtaposed to existing masonry and heavy timber elements to create an exciting and acutely unique office environment for 60 employees. The building itself was used to exhibit the value of steel and reclaimed materials relating to the clients mission by exposing new steel work that was required to stabilize the building, restoring exterior brick work, and through preserving and utilizing nostalgic interior elements including a repurposed vault, freight elevator, and coal chute.
